Driving

Bamfield is reached by active logging road from Port Alberni (roughly 76 km, plan 1.5–2 hours) or from Lake Cowichan via Nitinat. The road is gravel for most of its length — carry a full-size spare, fuel up in Port Alberni or Lake Cowichan (there is no gas station in Bamfield), drive with headlights on, and yield to industrial traffic. In summer, allow extra time for dust and washboard; in shoulder seasons, check conditions before you go. The Frances Barkley passenger ferry from Port Alberni is the scenic no-driving alternative on sailing days.

Arrival

Aim to arrive with daylight to spare — sorting gear is far easier before dusk. Check in at the Adventure Center at 550 Bamfield Road, then stage your gear at the Woods End Landing waterfront in West Bamfield. If anything about your timing changes on the drive in, call us at 1-800-917-3837 — cell coverage fades outside town, so call before you leave pavement.

Parking

Secure monitored parking is available at Save Paradise Parking, 550 Bamfield Road — standard vehicles, oversize vehicles and trailers, and truck-and-trailer combos, reservable by the day for the length of your paddle. Reserve ahead in summer so your spot is guaranteed when you roll in.
